CHEEKTOWAGA, NEW YORK…DirectBuy of Buffalo, the leading members-only showroom and home design center, established the “Do Gooder of the Month” award to recognize employees, vendors and even members going above and beyond the call of duty—either on the job or in their everyday lives. September’s winner is Mercedes Zoldos, service manager at DirectBuy of Buffalo, for her work on the Guilford Street Habitat for Humanity project.




DirectBuy of Buffalo is the corporate sponsor of the Habitat for Humanity house being built at 33 Guilford Street in Buffalo. As DirectBuy’s point person for this project, Zoldos has coordinated donations from DirectBuy’s vendors and suppliers for services and materials for the Guilford Street home. She’s also spearheaded the effort to round up volunteers among DirectBuy staff and members to work on the house and organized a silent auction to raise funds for the project.




“For starters, Mercedes does a great job for as our service manager, overseeing 13 people in our service department. The Habitat for Humanity project was an extra task and she’s taken it and run with it and that’s why she’s our Do-Gooder for September,” said Mark Klinger, owner of DirectBuy of Buffalo. “What makes her efforts even more impressive is that she’s been receiving radiation treatment for breast cancer during this entire period. But you’d certainly never know it by her attitude or the effort she’s put into it.”




As for DirectBuy of Buffalo’s Do-Gooder of the Month, beyond the recognition, the recipient receives a restaurant gift certificate. Though her work on the Habitat project has been satisfying, Zoldos has eyes on winning the Do-Gooder award again for another cause, raising money for the Roswell Cancer Institute.




“Obviously, funding cancer research is very important to me,” said Zoldos. “Besides the Habitat for Humanity, the people here at DirectBuy of Buffalo have been very supportive of donating money to Roswell, including the first Do-Gooder Bill Mahoney, who participated in the Ride for Roswell. I’m hoping we can raise even more money for the Institute at some point this year.”




A former veterinarian technician, Zoldos has worked for DirectBuy for the past four years, first in Houston and for the past __ years at DirectBuy of Buffalo. Married and the mother of two grown sons, Shawn and Eric, she lives in Orchard Park with her husband Darb.
