Turning off power is a way to save energy and money announces Wayne Bingham Communications at StandbySaturday.com.au.

We have had a number of people working on this for quite a while, unfortunately we were unable to get Government Research Funding. So we were reliant on private donations, which was precious little, though we did receive a great deal of free advice. Most of which was Dur or Obviously, however the obvious was practiced in the breach so we sought to prove the obviously questionable contention.

The key finding from this three year study was that if you turn the power off when a device is not being used, not only will this reduce the energy used, but also how much you pay the Utility company.

Marcel Merkus Chair of StandbySaturday.com.au said “I know its counterintuitive, who would have thought something so simple could have such a result, but the research speaks for itself. Turning power off reduces Energy consumption AND saves Money.”

Bingham further said “We will continue to undertake research on topics like this.”

Volunteers will be sought for further Research proposed in 2008. Topics include
What uses more petrol, walking or driving a car?
Do shorter showers really save water?
Is it possible to design a window that opens?
Does shade lower the heat in summer?
Natural Ventilation, is it really free?

Marcel Merkus said “OK, you got us, this is not really new. But we hope that you are thinking about the obvious as we move forward from Earth Hour. Please make a move to switch offal the time - every time to save yourself money and reduce your carbon footprint. “

Wayne Bingham closed with “Do one thing at home, one at work, one at the shops and contact your Politician.”

Standby Saturday is the first Australian nationwide “All the time – every time” switch-off of non-essential electrical appliances and equipment, such as TVs, computers, microwaves, stereos, playstations, and mobile phone chargers, with the aim of significantly reducing Australia’s carbon emissions. This campaign is the first in a series of Global initiatives as StandbySaturday events occur worldwide in 2008.
