Keep Dallas Beautiful Earns Governor’s Community Achievement Award

DALLAS – Fran Phillips, a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP and President of Keep Dallas Beautiful, is pleased to announce that the organization has been awarded the Texas Governor’s Community Achievement Award in recognition of Keep Dallas Beautiful’s grassroots environmental efforts.

The Governor’s Community Achievement Awards are presented annually to communities in nine population categories for exhibiting the best environmental programs in the state. Keep Dallas Beautiful will receive a one-time grant of $265,000 as the winner for cities with a population of more than 250,000.

“As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, a grant such as this will make a tremendous impact on what we will be able to do for Dallas,” says Ms. Phillips, a partner in Gardere’s Environmental Practice Group. “This is one of the most prestigious environmental awards presented to communities across Texas, and it is a testament to the very hard work and dedication of our volunteers and the generosity of the donors.”

The Awards have been sponsored by Keep Texas Beautiful since 1969 and funded by the Texas Department of Transportation since 1985. The winning communities share a $1 million grant provided by TxDOT designated for landscaping along state rights-of-way in their communities.

The Governor’s Community Achievement Awards are presented on the basis of a group’s community leadership and coordination, education, public awareness, litter prevention and cleanup, illegal dumping enforcement, beautification and property improvement.

Other GCAA winners hail from Lindsay, Muenster, Whitehouse, Richland Hills, Angleton, Duncanville, Tyler and Denton. The nine winning organizations will be recognized during the annual Keep Texas Beautiful Conference to be held June 24-27 at the Omni Mandalay Hotel at Las Colinas.
