TUNISIA HOSTS INAUGURAL INTERNATIONAL COLLOQUIUM “EMPOWERING WOMEN IN ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY”

WHAT
An inaugural international colloquium on "Empowering Women in Engineering and Technology" will set out with the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), the Center for Women and Information Technology at UMBC (CWIT), UNESCO and many other industry stakeholders discussing ongoing initiatives on gender, engineering and ICT; raise awareness on gender-related barriers to engineering and ICT access; include women as leaders and decision-makers; and support local solutions and content. The goal of this extraordinary new colloquium is to increase the worldwide participation and leadership of women engineers within WFEO and both the engineering and technology professions. The colloquium will host over 50 well-known speakers and 500 participants representing over 90 different countries.
The result - a unique collaborative effort from well-respected industry leaders and internationally renowned keynote speakers such as:
• Karima Bounerma Ben Soltane, Director, UN Economic Commission for Africa
• Johanna Levelt Sengers, Scientist emeritus - US National Institute of Standards & Technology, Co-Chair for the InterAcademy Council report on Women for Science
• Julie Hammer, AM, CSC, National Deputy President, Engineers Australia
• Claudine Hermann, Professor emeritus of Physics at Ecole Polytechnique Paris
“We are honored to make a contribution to this inaugural event that seeks to address the growing issue of the underrepresentation of women in the fields of science, engineering and technology globally,” states Claudia Morrell, Executive Director of CWIT and Colloquium Co-chair.
