Seven courses paired with nine Greek wines highlight imaginative dining event

Houston – Alden-Houston hotel’s award-winning *17 restaurant is bringing the ultimate Greek food and wine experience from the Parthenon to downtown’s Prairie Street. Set for Wednesday, October 1, 2008, it’s a dining and wine tasting event like Houston has never before seen.

"This is, simply put, a tasting that has never been done here in Houston,” says *17 Sommelier Evan Turner. “The scope of the wines presented, the refinement of the dishes served, nobody has been crazy enough to try this, until now!"

Turner hand-selected nine Greek wines that pair perfectly with *17 Executive Chef Wes Morton’s specially created seven course prix fixe menu, which includes Greek classics such as spanakopita, shellfish yiouvetsi, roasted lamb, Greek cheeses and revani for dessert.

"This is not just a chef and sommelier being ‘edgy’,” says Turner. “We have been stunned by the new vanguard of Greek food and wines. We want Houstonians to fall in love with them just as we have."

While Greek wines have been around for ages, most wine drinkers are more familiar with French, Italian or California vintages. Turner and Morton hope to open diners’ palates to unique, little-known wines and creative variations of traditional Greek tastes.

The event is scheduled for October 1, 2008 at 7pm on the Alden-Houston’s stunning second-story veranda. Seating is limited, reservations are required.
