Major changes have been announced for this year’s Business South West event, in the UK, which is the Westcountry region's premier business networking occasion.
For the first time, the show will have an official charity which will benefit from the proceeds of any fund-raising and from achieving a higher profile among the region’s business community.
The chosen charity is the West of England School and College for young people with little or no sight, located in Exeter, Devon, which is the leading regional centre for the education and care of visually impaired children and young people, many of whom also have a range of other disabilities.
Appropriately enough, the link up with Business South West came when the charity’s corporate fund-raiser, Jenny Paton, attended a networking event and met a representative of TJW Exhibitions Ltd, of Taunton, Somerset, which organises the show.
Jenny Paton said: “We have to battle on a yearly basis to raise funds for additional specialist equipment and some of our more innovative teaching and learning services, so any extra support from the business community will be a great boost for us.”
Business South West 2007 will also have a title sponsor after reaching an agreement with Bridgwater, Somerset, IT and telecommunications firm Axis First, which has close ties with mobile phone giant 02, which will also be supporting the event.
Nick Dixon, technology sales director for Axis First, said: “Axis First are delighted to sponsor this year’s Business South West.
“As a leading IT and telecommunication business in the South West for over 25 years we see Business South West as a brilliant opportunity to meet with the ever-increasing number of successful and innovative companies in the region and work with them to help develop their businesses and make the economy thrive.
“Furthermore, the involvement of O2 at the event underlines the importance of the region to the major plcs.”
Also, for the first time, Exeter Chamber of Commerce has become a Business South West partner this year and will help promote the event to its wide membership.
Chamber chairman Derek Phillips said: “Business South West is a major shop window for enterprise in the city and provides a unique platform for companies of all sizes to network, generate sales, and access practical help and expertise.
“I am delighted the chamber can be involved in bringing the many benefits of Business South West to our members and we look forward to working with TJW Exhibitions to ensure our members are able to make the most of this exciting event.”
The two-day Business South West 2007, now in its thirteenth year, is the largest and longest-running annual B2B event of its kind in the UK.
It takes place at the Westpoint Arena, Exeter, Devon, on Thursday and Friday, October 18 and 19, 2007, and is already rapidly filling up.
Many businesses were quick to take advantage of the discounts on offer for early bookings after experiencing the huge success of last autumn’s event, when they were able to showcase themselves to almost 200 other exhibitors nearly 4,000 executive visitors from across the region.
TJW’s exhibitions manager, Tim Waddington, said: “We have a unique format which allows exhibitors to boost their profits via face to face marketing and to raise their profiles across market boundaries, to benchmark their competitors, and to network with each other and with visitors to find valuable advice and new suppliers.
“We bring together under one roof everything from one-person start-up businesses to multi-national corporations, and create an environment where business people can grow their companies, enhance their own personal skills, learn about cutting edge ideas and products, and also have some fun all at the same time.
“One of the more powerful tools at Business South West 2007 is Meet the Buyer, where small businesses can talk one-to-one with some of the largest purchasing organisations in the region.”
