On Thursday, December 13, the Colorado American Marketing Association (CO AMA) will host a luncheon featuring keynote speaker Allen Buckner, senior product manager in Hewlett Packard’s (HP) Managed Home Division. Allen will present the development of a new HP consumer product from initial concept through to market launch.
He will explain the importance of using marketing requirements to drive product development and feature trade-off decisions, as well as how to establish and maintain organizational alignment via the product development checkpoint process. Allen will also discuss the importance of customer usability and beta testing during product development, how to strategically align marketing communications activities and how to navigate the challenges of launching a new product in a new category. In addition, Allen will talk about possible management issues between marketing and research and development (R&D) divisions that can arise during product launches as well as describe how to drive product management course corrections in the ever-changing consumer technology landscape.
Allen has more than 15 years of marketing and business planning experience. His HP experience includes five years in competitive intelligence and business planning for the digital photography division and the past two years in product management with HP’s Personal Storage Business. Allen also spent two years as director of corporate marketing for Spectra Logic and five years in a variety of marketing roles with CareerTrack.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Colorado and an MBA from the University of Denver.
