Uplift, Inc., nonprofit creator of Hustle & TECHknow Preparatory High School - winner of the 2007 Automation Alley Educational Program of the Year award, has launched an awareness campaign titled, Breakin’ Out of Your Financial Funk. The campaign began with the publishing of the book, Breakin’ Out of Your Financial Funk to be followed by videos posted on You Tube, My Space and Facebook. These videos will be used as Public Service Announcements.
Ida Byrd-Hill, President of this 501(c)3 nonprofit and author of the book, Breakin’ Out of Your Financial Funk, believes people are in a financial panic due to the mortgage crisis and need a pick-me-up. Breakin’ Out of Your Financial Funk will assist people mentally and emotionally deal with their personal financial pain while leading them to dream again. She has been presenting seminars to small employee groups who have been offered early retirement buyouts to bring them comfort in making their life changing decision.
Ida Byrd-Hill spent 15 years as a financial advisor and mortgage lender attempting to educate people to view their mortgage as a part of an integrated financial plan and not the plan alone. She believes when property values increased double and triple fold, Americans were baited into the false sense this boom would continue forever, not realizing the boom was created by the cash from their refinanced mortgages. People were lured by low mortgage payments into buying palatial mansions, only to be stuck with a big house and earth shattering mortgage payments.
While the media has portrayed the subprime mortgage crisis and its foreclosure cousin as affecting only the less than perfect credit borrowers, it has affected 60% of the American population. Subprime lenders expanded their market base by offering products exclusively for borrowers with good to perfect credit. These borrowers are affluent (earning well over $100,000 per year) and well-educated. They secured adjustable rate option arm, no money down and 125% home equity mortgages, not realizing greedy mortgage companies would increase their rates astronomically, even when interest rates remained low.
These borrowers are losing their dream homes and their sanity. They are stressed, attempting to cover mortgage payments that are increasing wildly; payments they can no longer afford. With property values dropping sharply, eliminating the possibility of future refinances, people are trapped into a negative situation with no hope to get out. People are stressed, depressed, and frustrated. People are in a financial funk. Unfortunately, these borrowers are suffering in silence, too embarrassed to verbalize their plight.
Ida Byrd-Hill believes these borrowers will keep buying goods, but will downgrade from pure luxuries to affordable luxuries to maintain their sanity and a semblance of their lifestyle. Uplift, Inc. is seeking sponsors to support a National - 20 region seminar tour.
Breakin’ Out of Your Financial Funk seminars will lift up these affluent borrowers. Imagine a coliseum filled with 5000 - 10,000 people receiving a motivational speech, giving them a mental break, when your company raffles off a few surprise giveaways of your affordable luxuries. Imagine the sheer joy and excitement that will roll throughout that region as people spread the message of your giveaway. Consumers will be endeared to your company as you reach out and touch them with an understanding of their plight. Your market share will increase as this goodwill is spread by word-of-mouth and the internet replay of your giveaway in 20 key regions.
