Northern Rail's new office in Bruntwood's Sq1 building, Manchester, recently designed and fit-out by Claremont Group Interiors, is the first office in the UK to be fitted with Geolan, a floor mounted stainless steel sliding door system.
Over a seven-week programme, Claremont designed and built a sharp contemporary interior in the refurbished building, to allow 100 Northern Rail staff to relocate from their current offices in Whitworth Street.
Working with a floor area of approximately 8500 sq ft, and ceiling heights of nearly 4m, Claremont were able to use 3m high runs of frameless glass, one of which depicts the inside of the dome in Manchester Victoria Station. A break out area for staff was created using pendant lighting and bench seating to give a relaxed 'bar' feel to the space.
Supplied to Claremont by Office Blinds & Glazing (OBG), Geolan was created for use in areas where wall or ceiling mounting is not possible. After discussions with Northern Rail and OBG, Claremont chose to use Geolan for its aesthetics and spec and its ability to take greater loads (of up to 135kg).
Natasha Wilding, of Northern Rail, said:
"As a forward thinking company, Northern Rail were open to suggestions and advice from Claremont as to how we could make our office state-of-the-art in every sense of the word. Being the first company in the UK to use Geolan is demonstrative of that. We were delighted with the work done by Claremont and believe that our offices now reflect our ethos as a company."
Matt Holmes, at Claremont Group Interiors, said:
"We are always looking for new and innovative products for our interiors, the Geolan Doors enabled us to achieve a good looking, neat solution that provided a great platform for large scale branding."
Alan Nichols, of OBG, said:
"We were delighted to be involved on this prestigious project and had no qualms about being the first in the UK to install this innovative and very effective new product. OBG have aligned themselves with the GEZE range of products so it was a guarantee that Geolans quality and aesthetics would satisfy Claremont's aspirations.
The product is quick to install, has slim sightlines and due to being floor loaded, achieves larger weight loads than other sliding doors on the market. Additionally, despite the size of these doors they are easy to operate and noticeably quieter than other products due to the "rubber tyres" on the transfer wheels."
