Npower Price Hikes Provide another Good Reason to Use Renewable Energy

UK Energy Saving promote renewable energy

2008-01-07, UK Energy Saving/Hayley Jones
UK Energy Saving has responded to today’s announcement about price rises from Npower with calls to consumers to consider using renewable energy sources. Npower, the UK’s fourth largest gas and electricity supplier, announced on 4th January 2008 that they would be increasing their gas and electricity prices by 17.2% and 12.7% respectively with effect from Saturday 5th January 2008. Their competitors are expected to follow suit shortly with the blame for rises being attributed to the increase in wholesale gas and electricity prices as well as distribution costs.

These price rises are not wholly unexpected, but UK Energy Saving feels that perhaps this could be a wake up call for more consumers to look at the benefits of renewable energy. Hayley Jones, UK Energy Saving’s Web Marketing Director, commented today on the pricing news. “As a result of the price rises we expect to see a large number of consumers switching their utilities’ provider in the next few weeks. People should certainly be trying to get themselves a better deal, but this is also an opportunity to think about renewable energy. Many suppliers now offer green tariffs which can mean that the electricity you consume will be created by renewable resources. You can also use renewable energy in your home both for electricity generation and to provide heating and hot water. We invite consumers to take a look at the UK Energy Saving website for more information on renewable energy and to switch their utilities’ provider.”

UK Energy Saving provides information on various forms of renewable energy on their consumer website, highlighting some of the savings which can be made. This is made all the more pertinent in light of the announced Npower price rises and others expected from the gas and electricity industry. In addition, UK Energy Saving also provides access to a utilities marketplace where consumers can search for a better deal and access information on the suppliers’ green tariffs.
