This year the “Classic” featured former Belgium National Cycling Champion, Tour de France veteran and Olympic Bronze Medalist Axel Merckx. In addition to the group ride, “Breakaway” Sponsors like Spence Diamonds who donate over $10, 000 were given an opportunity to have a more intimate ride alongside the cycling legend, and John Sturdy was the lucky representative from Spence.

As a partnership between the BC Cancer Foundation and the Wedgewood Cycling Team, the Westside Cycling Classic aims to raise funds for cancer research at the BC Cancer Agency, and to engage the provincial community in one of the healthiest and most dynamic sports and recreational pastimes in the province.
